    Closet organizing system

    1. We replaced a single light fixture with a fluorescent light fixture in the closet. Before you install a new light, you need to turn off the power to circuit in the closet and then remove the old fixture.

    2. To hold the new fixture, install two moly bolts into the ceiling (figure A). Make your connections of black to black and white to white and your green ground wire to the ground.

    3. Put the new fixture in (figure B) and then put on the cover and turn the power back on.

    4. Sand the closet a final time and then give the new closet a couple coats of paint.

    5. Patch any area with carpet where your old half wall used to be. Cut a leftover piece of carpet to the size you need and then glue it in place (figure C).

    6. Miter your baseboard to fit at the corner. Mark where the studs are located and then nail the baseboards in place (figure D) using 2 inch nails.

    7. Caulk gives the baseboard a finishing touch (figure E).

    8. On the show the center cabinet was built on the floor outside the closet and then raised into place. Make marks on the wall to indicate where the studs are and then drill through the cabinet to attach it to the wall.

    9. With the tower in place, install the side area. Install the brackets for the top shelf and screw them in place (figure F) working from left to right around the closet.

    10. Cut the rods to length and set them in the brackets (figure G).

    11. The edge channel supports the corner shelves (figure H).

    12. The top shelf is generally 85 inches from the floor. The middle shelf should be 42 inches from the floor.

Expert Tip: All closet storage systems have their own advantages and disadvantages. It would be worth your time to shop around and see what is available.
