Project designed by Mary Lyon. Materials: base beads of glass, ceramic, stone, wood, polymer clay, plastic, etc. craft wire round nose pliers chain nose pliers flush cutter
Steps: - Measure out a 5" to 7" length of wire, depending on your base bead.
- Make a small eye loop on each end of the wire using round nose pliers. Make the loops so they're facing each other in a moustache-formation, not forming an S-shape.
- Using chain nose pliers, grasp one eye loop securely. Carefully start a flat spiral, growing ever-larger, working around the eye loop until you've gone about halfway along the length of wire.
- Repeat step 3 on the other eye loop, working it toward the other spiral into a "two snails kissing" pattern.
- When the coils meet, continue the spiraling work until they overlap completely. The wire should now look like a flat, clam shell.
- Using chain nose pliers, open the spiral a little bit vertically so the clam shell shape is more round and balloon-like.
- Open the clam shell in one of the larger middle spirals and insert a bead. Close the spiral enough to trap the bead inside.
- Cut another length of wire 3" or so in length. Carefully work the wire short length of wire through one of the eye loops, through the hole of the trapped bead and out through the other eye loop at the opposite end. This is a little tedious, and you might have to "fiddle" with it a little.
- Using round nose pliers, make a larger "eye loop" at each end of the centered 3" length of wire that pokes through the wire spirals and the inner trapped bead. Add the wire-wrapped embellished bead to jewelry designs.
