Tear the garnet gel into about 2-inch pieces and melt over low heat. 2. When garnet is melted, pour about a 1/4-inch layer into the well of the dinner plate. 3. Add pearl powder to the remainder of the gel and stir thoroughly with the metal spoon. Melt again. 4. When the first layer is cooled, pour on the pearl layer (figure A). This layer needs to be cool to the touch but the center still needs to be slightly warm. 5. With scissors, cut off about a 1-1/2 inch strip of layered gel from the edge of the plate. One side of the strip will be curved and one will be flat. 6. Carefully roll up the strip to create the look of a rose. Angle the strip down as it is rolled around so the top is not all the same height (figure B). Trim the bottom of the rose so it will lay flat. Carefully dip the flat bottom into the melted gel and place on decorative plate. This will help the rose stay together. Make other roses. 7. Push the wick from the bottom of each rose and trim to 1/4 inch. 8. The leaves are created in the same way. Layer the emerald gel with pearl mixed, then the clear emerald. When cool, cut out leaf shapes with scissors (figure C) . Lay leaves next to roses. Tips: - The container you select must be able to withstand a pour of hot candle gel. - Do not microwave--the gel needs a slow, even heat for melting. - If gel beings to smoke, remove from heat immediately. - Pour melted gel slowly from the pan to the container to prevent bubbles. - Never leave melting gel unattended. - Use metal or heat-resistant plastic spoons only; wood spoons cause bubbles in the gel. - Gel can be re-melted, and cooled gel can be returned to its container for reuse. - Any drips or spills can be peeled off when gel is cooled and reused. - Most things can embedded in gel, but do not add things that will burn or melt.
