Guest Mary O'Neil from Hot Potatoes Stamps shows how to emboss velvet and make this velvet ribbon lampshade. Materials: Hot Potatoes #I402 Tattoo You & #L403 Celtic Groove Thang stamps 1-1/4 yard 3" teal Hot Potatoes acetate/rayon velvet ribbon* 1-1/4 yard 2" pistachio Hot Potatoes acetate/rayon velvet ribbon 1-1/4 yard ribbon, trim, and beading to coordinate with velvet* 42" diameter lampshade w/as little angle as possible double-stick tape iron (no steam) spray bottle filled with tap water *These measurements are based on the size of our lampshade. The diameter of your lampshade might require more or less. Steps: 1. Emboss the velvet ribbon: Place the stamp rubber-side-up on an ironing board and lay the velvet face down against the stamp image. Lightly mist the back of the ribbon with water from the spray bottle. Press a hot iron to the velvet and hold for 20 seconds, then remove the iron and lift up the velvet (figure A). Continue to emboss all the velvet ribbon in this fashion. 2. Apply double-stick tape to the back of the ribbon and trim. Start in the back of the lampshade where the seam already exists and wrap the ribbon and trim pieces around the lampshade, overlapping the trim to hide the edges of the ribbon (figure B). 3. Turn the raw edges of the ribbon under and attach with another small piece of double-stick tape to form a neat seam in the back (figure C).
