Project designed by Linda Welsh-Peterson. Materials:
24-gauge fuchsia wire
24-gauge green metallic wire
20-gauge fuchsia wire
20-gauge floral wire stem
20-gauge yellow wire (or color of choice for center of flower)
tiny glass marbles: 90 grams pink & 90 grams green metallic
large leaf- or teardrop-shaped paper punch
double-sided adhesive sheets
floral tape
wire coiling tool
wire cutters
pliers
silicone glue
picture frame
Tips:
- Be careful when handling the double-sided tape so as not to disturb adhesive.
- Larger or smaller punches will create larger or smaller flowers and leaves.
Steps: 1. Coil green and fuchsia wire and set aside. (Amount of coil needed will depend on the size punches used.)
2. Coil the yellow wire in 1-inch increments, leaving 1/2-inch on each side uncoiled. Repeat this three to five times depending on the amount you want in the center of the flower.
3. To make the petals: Punch seven or eight teardrop shapes. (Five will become the petals, leaving two or three for the leaves.) Cut a small V-shaped notch out of each side of scalloped bottom.
4. Peel off liner and place a small amount of glue along the edge of the teardrop with a toothpick. This will help the wire adhere permanently.
5. Press fuchsia wire onto tape over glue, beginning at one notch (figure A).
6. Cut a 5-inch piece of 20-gauge fuchsia wire. Coil and make squiggles with the pliers until desired pattern is achieved.
7. Press this wire in the center of the petal and allow the edge to extend past the petal (figure B). Dip into beads (figure C). Peel off back liner and dip into beads (figure D).
8. Repeat these steps to create all five petals.
9. Repeat above steps using all green materials to create leaves.
10. To assemble: Bend the flower center coils in half and twist wire ends together. Place one coil on the stem at a time in a clockwise pattern and secure each center by stretching and wrapping floral tape around both center wire stem and floral wire.
11. Place one petal on the stem and secure this with floral tape. Repeat this step in a clockwise pattern until all petals are secure with floral tape (figure E).
12. Cut end of floral wire to desired length and glue to upper corner of frame (figure F).
13. Glue leaves in place as desired (figure G).
