    Steps:

    1. Condition translucent clay. Add tiny bits of color to tint like stone (figure A). Mix until streaked or as desired (figure B). Flatten to 1/4-inch thickness.

    2. Place doll template pattern over clay. You can make this template or buy one at the craft store. Cut out template shape with craft knife (figure C). Remove excess clay, leaving doll shape.

    3. Spritz rubber texture sheets with water and bend around the shape, or sandwich the clay shape between two types of texture (figure D).

    4. Inset purchased face (figure E).

NOTE: To make a mold of a purchased face, flatten portion of Elasticlay deep enough to accept purchased face. Spritz with water; or if clay is soft, rub with cornstarch, which acts as a release. Press item to be molded into clay and remove carefully. Bake mold. Roll a ball of clay into the mold and pop out; mold is flexible (figure F). Bake molded piece. Note: When adding baked to unbaked clay, use white glue or liquid Sculpey to adhere.

    5. Re-shape the pendant with flush side of blade or a smooth object such as a bone folder so edges are smooth and tapered.

    6. Push hole horizontally through pendant (or drill after baking) (figure G). Bake according to package instructions.

    7. Paint with raw umber paint. Remove excess paint on raised areas with damp cloth (figure H).

    8. Optional: Sand with 400- and 600-grit wet sandpaper and polish with buffing wheel or Dremel buffing tool.
