    Materials

4 Daisy Kingdom Connect-It felt squares
    Daisy Kingdom Button-Its
    Daisy Kingdom Add-Its by
    Daisy Kingdom Lace-Its
    photo copies of photos
    ThermOWeb Peel-n-Stick double-sided adhesive
    scissors
    mat Knife
    felt scraps
    beads
    wires
    needle
    thread
    hot glue gun
    glue sticks

    Steps:

    1. Decorate each of the four Connect-It squares using a common theme. Use the photocopies on paper or fabric backed with Peel-n-Stick. Stack layers of felt and cut into patterns, which can then be woven, folded or cut out. Other fabrics, fibers, branches, etc. can be woven into the squares. Attach items with hand or machine stitching, or use stitches as embellishments.

    2. After all four squares are decorated, use the Button- Its, Lace-Its (figure A), or anything else appropriate for your project to connect the squares. Overlapping the button holes of the squares allow for any number of choices.

    3. Find a special something to hang your squares from. Several suggestions would be a walking cane, golf club, fishing rod, etc. Consider anything that relates to your theme and have fun!

    4. For hanging from the squares, you can make beads from adhesive-backed fabric cut into a long triangle and rolled over a straw (figure B). String these beads onto a torn piece of fabric, leaving the ends to make a tie to go around the branch the squares are hung from (figure C).

    5. Or, decorate tags to hang on the bottom (figure D) using the same fabric ties with beads strung on them, then tie the tags to the bottoms of the squares through the buttonholes (figure E).

To make the squares shown on the show:

    To make the orange squares:

    1. Center a 4-inch square of paper on the orange square and mark the corners onto the felt.

    2. Cut from corner to corner with scissors through the orange (top) layer only. The cut will form an X.

    3. Cut out turquoise square. Insert the blue fabric and photo cut out inside of the X.

    4. Glue pompoms between the underside of points and squar (figure F).

    5. Glue the letters across the top of the square to spell "Friends." Glue the photo clothespin doll (figure G) on the right side of the square.

    6. Attach a floral Add-It! to the bottom left-hand corner of the square (figure H).

    To make the yellow square:

    1. Apply adhesive-backed photocopy to the lower center of the square at an angle.

    2. Glue the zipper to the lower right corner of photo (figure I).

    3. Add book and fabric cut out.

    4. Add letters to spell "Amanda" to top of square (figure J).

    To make the green square:

    1. Cut seven rows of 1/2-inch slits into top layer of square. Cut 12 slits on each row. Again, the rows don't need to be straight.

    2. Cut socks of any fabric into 1-inch wide strips approximately 13 to 14 inches long.

    3. Weave the sock strips through the cut slits (figure K). Since the strips are longer than the row of slits, they will make a series of loops across the square (figure L). Knot the ends of the strips.

    4. Glue letters on round tags to read "Sisters." Attach the tags across the top of the square.

    5. Add a photo to the window of a flower Add-It! Apply the flower to the bottom right side of the square (figure M).

    To make the pink square:

    1. Use sharp scissors to cut approximately 13 slits across the square, starting and ending 1/2 inch from the top stitching on each side in the top layer only. The slits should be spaced every 1/2 inch (figure N).

    2. Place a 4-inch square of turquoise felt behind the slits.

    3. Fold the center of each slit down and pin in place (figure O).

    4. Using three strands of embroidery floss, sew down the center.

    5. Sew a second line of stitches with yellow embroidery floss (figure P).

    6. Apply a green embroidered heart Add-It! to the lower left side of the square.

    7. Add the age number "16" to the left upper corner of the square.

    8. Add letter beads to spell a name on a wire, and add to the center top of the square.

    9. Add clothespin doll to the lower right corner (figure Q).

    To make the quilt holder:

    1. Paint tree branch white.

    2. Insert one fabric strip into first button hole at the top of the quilt. Hold both ends of the fabric strip together push through plastic and fabric beads. Tie fabric strip ends securely to branch

    3. Repeat for each buttonhole at top of quilt.
