Furniture designers were first attracted to the irregular knotty curves of burl wood in the '60s. Now, almost half a century later, its unique natural beauty still can be found in homes around the country. Mike is a busy executive who just moved into a vintage apartment building. He hates the bare walls, and needs a wall clock that honors the style of his new home. The clock is roughly 2' x 2' in the shape of a piece of burl wood that's made out of MDF and two kinds of laminate.
On the face, host Amy Devers uses laminate with a black and white graphic rendering of wood grain. On the edge she uses laminate with photorealistic imagery of bark. The hands are dye cut tin and the numbers are upholstery tacks spray painted black. The entire body of the clock is made out of three layers of medium density fiberboard. There's a built in cleat and an opposing cleat on the wall so the clock hangs flush.
