Thaddeus Foote, an eighth-grade math and science teacher, embarks on a yearlong study in boatbuilding at the Landing School in Maine. This semester, he will work with a team of two other students to build a traditional wooden sailboat called a peapod. Teacher Paul Barton familiarizes the class with the tools and techniques of the woodshop and starts Footeand his team on the specialized process of building a perfectly proportioned boat from stem to stern.
