Project by Gerald Haessig from New Orleans, La. After working for years in the graphics department of the local news station, Gerald was inspired to take some art classes. He is now an accomplished ceramics and glass artist. In this project, Gerald makes a stamped precious metal clay (PMC) pendant. Materials: object to create impression two-part rubber mold material precious metal clay file wire brush nail buffers blackening agent jump ring chain Steps: 1. Make a rubber mold of the brass plate using a two-part rubber mold material called Belicone compound. Remove from the jar and knead together two equal portions. Place kneaded material over brass plate and press it on. Allow to set up about 10 to 15 minutes. 2. Peel off mold. 3. Press metal clay into mold. Allow to dry. 4. Pop out the clay piece and file away any rough areas. Pierce the hole for the jump ring. 5. Place in kiln and fire. Allow to cool. Burnish with a brass wire brush. 6. Piece can be put in a tumbler and tumbled to a high polish or polished by hand using nail buffers or buffing pads. 7. Apply blacking agent to pull out details. Rinse and buff to a high polish. 8.
