Are you handy with a hammer? Skilled with a saw? Talented with tools? Then you may want to apply for a chance to compete in the DIY Network's new one-hour do-it-yourself reality competition television show... Warehouse Warriors. The Arena
A special warehouse, stocked with do-it-yourself tools and supplies and divided into two separate and discrete sections.
The Warriors
Two three-person teams will compete in the design and construction of a predetermined do-it-yourself project. Teams can be made up of business or work associates, church groups, civic clubs, or any other organized or nonorganized entities, so long as they possess reasonable levels of do-it-yourself skills.
The Battle
The host explains the rules and announces the project, which could be building a gazebo, a multilevel picnic table, a child's play gym, etc. The teams, which will have access to tools and supplies in the prestocked warehouse, will have one day to complete the design and construction of their "project." At the start of the competition, each team designs its structure, gathers the tools and supplies, and begins building. At the end of the competition, a panel of judges examines the work, and based on originality of design, quality of construction and creative expression -- chooses a winner.
Choosing the Winning Warriors
Which Warriors team will emerge victorious? It's up to the judges to decide ... and to declare the final victors! The judges' panel is comprised of:
2 professional contractors or representatives from trade organizations (or sponsoring companies)
1 on-air expert from the DIY network or other home-improvement "celebrity" judge
As the competition unfolds, the judges will look for exceptional creativity, dynamic design and effectual execution of the featured project. The Warriors' efforts are evaluated on the following criteria, rated on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest. (Maximum Total Score: 100 points)
Design: Worth up to 20 points of 100.
The judges rate the overall quality of construction and design (the project's function) on a scale of 1-10. This number is then multiplied by 2 to determine the weighted score.
Execution: Worth up to 30 points of 100.
The judges rate efficiency, techniques and teamwork on a scale of 1-10. This number is then multiplied by 3 to determine the weighted score.
Creativity: Worth up to 50 points of 100.
The judges rate aesthetics, originality and imaginative use of supplies on a scale of 1-10. This number is then multiplied by 5 to determine the weighted score.
Once the scoring process is complete, the judges issue their ruling. The team with the highest score from two of three judges wins the match!
Rules of Participation
All applicants must be over 18 years of age. All applicants must be available to come to the Warehouse Warriors studio in Knoxville, Tennessee, for taping, arriving the day before the taping begins and departing the day after it's complete. Shows are not always taped on weekends, so please be prepared to travel midweek if necessary. Travel allowance and hotel accommodations will be paid by the show. There is no appearance fee, however.
How to Apply
Keep in mind that all of the How to Apply instructions must be followed exactly as written; otherwise, your application may be rejected.
Get together a team of three people and one alternate (in case one of your members falls ill or has second thoughts about being on TV). Team members must know one another and have a common bond (co-workers, family members, neighbors, parishioners, softball team members, etc.).
Remember, we're looking for people with intermediate to advanced do-it-yourself skill levels. We respectfully suggest that beginners not apply.
Print and fill out the applications. Each person must fill out an application legibly and then attach a photo of himself or herself. Write name and phone number on the back of the photo. Photos will not be returned.
Make a video of your team in action. Have someone who isnt on the team run the camera, or set the camera up on a tripod. The video should be no longer than 10 minutes and should include the following elements:
Introduction of each team member by name, age and occupation. Each team member should also describe his or her level of home-improvement expertise.
A brief statement about why you think your team might win a challenge on Warehouse Warriors.
Show-and-tell. Choose a project from the list below and give it a shot with your team. We need to see and hear how you plan it, what tools and materials you use to make it, and how you go about making it (remember, we're looking for imagination and originality). This portion should occupy 5 to 7 minutes of the tape.
Project list: doghouse, childs picnic table or simple chair, etc.
You don't have to complete your project in order to be considered for the show. We'll be assessing your team members' personalities, creativity and skill levels, so understand that spending lots of money on your demo project isn't necessary and won't give your team an advantage.
Using a permanent marker, write your team leader's name and phone number on the videotape label. Send the tape, along with the applications and photos, to the address listed below. It may take some time for our casting department to review your tape, but if you follow the directions, you will definitely be considered for an upcoming episode of Warehouse Warriors.
Videotapes cannot be returned.
