- After taking a step back to look at the arrangement of the boulders, it's time to "soften" the layout with the addition of ornamental grasses. Begin by planting clusters of reed-like grasses near the boulders.
- Along the banks, plant groups of irises or other flowers of choice, alternating these varieties with more grass clusters.
- Next, dig a hole in the center of the flow line for the landscape water bowl. Install it to a depth that will leave its rim two inches above the grade.
- Place one or two medium-size rocks in the bowl, and surround them with smaller rocks. This will provide safety for the birds should they fall in, and give it a more natural look.
