Brad Staggs gives a brief overview of cordless drill features.

Time to add a cordless drill to your tool arsenal? Brad Staggs provides an overview.

The power you get is the power you pay for.

A 9.6 volt cordless drill is light- to medium-duty and fits most hands well; while 12 and 14.4 volt drills are powerful and heavier and are usually better suited to more industrial or professional applications. Keep in mind that powerful drills -- although heavier -- are often more versatile and have increased battery life.

Choose the features you need and get accessories you'll use.

Almost all drills today have keyless chucks, while a few have removable chucks and magnetic bit holders attached. A level on the top of many drills can help achieve the proper angle when drilling. Specialized bits and accessories can be used to drill through different materials. The right features and accessories can help you work in a more efficient manner, so get the drill that will be most versatile.
