  • Jigsaws
  • From "Ask DIY"
    episode ADI-707
    advertisement

Ask DIY's Home Improvement expert, Brad Staggs, offers a wealth of information to help you choose the right jigsaw (also known as a scroll saw or saber saw) for your needs:

    • Buy tool with the features you need. Higher-end models offer more sophisticated features, but you may not need them if you plan to use your jigsaw only for basic tasks. But remember: Generally, the more expensive the saw, the better its construction.

    • Buy good-quality blades. You can buy blades that are specially made for cutting various materials such as wood, metal and even leather.

    • Be patient. The jigsaw is a good tool to have in your workshop, but it takes practice to develop skill in using it. Give yourself time to understand correct techniques, and soon you'll be sawing like a pro!
