    Dust-collection systems capture wood dust and chips at the source of the woodworking machine. Because certain types of wood dust can be toxic, a dust-collection system helps protect your health--as well as reduce cleanup duties.

    The basic dust collector is a simple cloth bag attached to the dust port (figure A).

    The wet/dry vacuum has a hose that connects to the dust port (figure B). If the hose is too big for the port, use a reducer to make it fit (figure C), or use duct tape to secure the hose to the port.

    Heavy-duty dust-collection systems are very powerful and come in small, portable models (figure D) as well as larger sizes for bigger, busier workshops (figure E). Some larger models can clean three machines at the same time.
