  • Plywood Edges

  • Plywood is an easy and inexpensive material for making shelving and large pieces of furniture. However, from a platform bed to bookcases, sometimes exposed edges are a dead give-away that you used plywood rather than solid wood. You can disguise them in such a way that no one will know the difference.

    1. For low-stress situations, you can use iron-on laminates, trimming them afterwards with a sharp utility knife. Iron-on pre-glued edging. Hold the strips in place and heat with an iron until the glue sticks to the plywood.

    2. For a more permanent disguise, cut your own strips of wood and glue them to the plywood. Attach strips of real wood to match the plywood veneer. Cut strips of wood on table saw, then apply with glue and set in place. Secure the masking tape, and clamp with woodworking clamps or tape.

    3. Sand and finish.
