    Finalizing the Case

    • With the stock for the base miter-cut to proper dimensions, use the biscuit joiner to cut two biscuit-slots in each of the mitered surfaces (figure A) for added strength in the glue-up.

    • Glue up the base using slow-setting plastic-resin glue to allow ample assembly and clamping time.

    • Because of the angles on the case, the base will be glued to the case in the same step.

    • Apply glue to the rabbet of the base and to the base of the entire assembly.

    • Set the dresser assembly on top of the base (figure B).

    • Clamp the assembly (figure C) and let it set for 12 hours at 70 degrees.

That completes the first phase of this two-part project. The remaining steps in building the Egyptian inspired dresser are shown in Wood Works episode 709. Those steps include making the drawers using dovetail joinery, creating the cove-molding around the top and turning ebony drawer-handles on the lathe.
