Dimensions for Making a Magazine Rack- To arrive at the appropriate dimensions for your magazine rack, measure the length of the longest spine of the magazines you normally read. Add 1/2" for clearance, plus twice the thickness of your ledger strips. This will be the inside width. The metal slats should be cut to this dimension less 1/8".
- To arrive at the dimension for the inside length allow 1" for each magazine and add 2" to the total. If you plan to store 15 magazines, the inside length will be 19". The ledger strips should be cut to this length.
- The height of the rack is a matter of preference. Start with the height you want the finished rack to be and subtract the height of your legs plus the thickness of your material. This will be the inside height of your box. Double check that the inside height is at least 1" than the width of your magazines.
- Front and back pieces = (inside width +2 x material thickness + 1/2" for reveal on either side) x (inside height).
- Side pieces = (inside length + 2 x depth of dado groove) x (inside height).
- Bottom pieces = (width of front piece + 1/2") x (inside length = 2 x material thickness = 1/2" for reveal on either side.
